Jaidev is a poet who has stopped writing and sees almost nobody. On a drive through the hills he finds a young woman abandoned by the road with no memory of who she is, and takes her home.

Smita settles into the house and he begins working again. Then the household starts to come apart around her: objects moved, servants frightened, and hours she cannot account for.

What is in her has a name and a reason, and the further Jaidev digs into where she came from, the closer he gets to the family that wanted her forgotten.
