Anjali arrives in Mumbai looking for work and finds that the one room she can afford is meant for a married couple. She and Nandu, a stranger in the same position, agree to pass themselves off as husband and wife.

Jeetu has money and very little judgement. He takes Anjali for a rich businessman's daughter and decides, on almost no evidence, that he is in love with her.

From there the misunderstandings multiply. Radheshyam Tiwari and his wife each begin to suspect the other of an affair with one of the young people, and Nandu realises he has stopped pretending.
