Munnu and Bunnu are Hasmukh Rai's sons, and their talent is for elaborate practical jokes rather than for anything their father is paying to educate them in.

Hasmukh finds out they have been lying about their marks for three years and have failed every exam. The college expels them, and he puts them out of the house.

Then one joke gets away from them. Bunnu disappears, Munnu is pulled into the question of what became of him, and a cousin from a village arrives in town with Bunnu's face and no idea what he has walked into.
