Dhananjay, Sudhir, Parshya and Shantanu leave for Pune, where work is promised and rooms are scarce. Their landlord throws them out, and the only place left belongs to Leelabai Kalbhor, a wealthy widow who lets rooms to married couples alone.

So Sudhir becomes Sudha and Parshya becomes Parvati, and the four men move in as two respectable households. The disguise holds for about as long as it takes each of them to fall for a girl in the neighbourhood.

Leelabai's nephew Bali watches the arrangement closely and starts gathering proof. Between four courtships, two borrowed identities and a house where nobody can drop the act for an hour, the lie gets harder to hold.
