Anjali is the daughter of a wealthy businessman and in love with Dev, who has no money. Her father refuses the match and marries her instead to Ram Verma, a decent man she does not want.

Ram's relatives make the early months hard, but he meets all of it with patience, and Anjali slowly comes to love the husband she was given rather than the man she lost.

Three years on, Dev returns rich and certain he can have her back. Anjali chooses Ram, so Dev turns to Ram's own family, buying up his debts and closing in on everything he owns.
