Maari runs his own small corner of the neighbourhood, collecting money from the shopkeepers and racing pigeons on the side. The street puts up with him because it has never had much choice.

Sridevi opens a tailoring boutique on that street, and Maari makes himself her partner whether she wants one or not. She goes to Inspector Arjun Kumar instead, and the two of them set about getting Maari to talk about an old killing.

It works, and it puts him away. What Maari learns once he is out is that Arjun has an arrangement of his own with Ravi, a rival who would like the street for himself.
