Dev is a painter with debts and ambition. Priya teaches music. They meet on a cruise while both are travelling towards marriages arranged for them, and by the time the ship docks neither wants the life waiting on shore.

They agree to part, settle their own affairs honestly, and meet again six months later. Dev breaks off his engagement and his paintings begin to sell.

Priya does not come. What stops her on the way is something she decides Dev must never learn, so she lets him believe she simply changed her mind.
