Roopa's brother Ram is a soldier, killed in front of his village when the bandit Gujjar Singh raids it. Roopa is left with nothing, and she swears she will find Gujjar herself.

She steals a set of clothes from Kishan, a travelling stage actor, and that is how the two meet. Kishan and his friend Shankar want nothing to do with her, then find themselves helping anyway.

Kishan falls for Roopa without knowing what she is really doing in the towns they pass through. When she finally tells him, he leaves, and Shankar stays.
